We're Celebrating 100 Years!
AW Direct Towing Magazine

Our company was founded in 1921 by Ralph Greco who started Central Garage on Front and Morgan Street in Hartford, Connecticut. At that time, he serviced a vast variety of cars and trucks. His largest customer was from the local Regional Market where he not only repaired but also stored about 20 trucks in his shop every night.

In 1946 he relocated to the South End of Hartford to 36 Bond Street. His children grew up working around the garage. His two sons Angelo and Anthony worked in the business for many years and in the early 1960's  started adding to their towing and snow removal business. Ralph Greco passed away in 1979 leaving Angelo and Anthony to manage the business.

In 1995 Robert Greco, the son of Angelo, relocated the business to a 20,000 square foot facility, the new home of Central Auto & Transport at 195 Maxim Road in Hartford, CT. Over the years, they purchased two local towing companies and added heavy equipment, freight transportation, and remediation transportation. In 1999, Central had grown to over 50 employees.

In 2001, the Inner City 100, co-sponsored by Inc Magazine nominated Central Auto & Transport #2 in the state of Connecticut for a 5 year compounded average growth rate of 64% with revenues in 1999 of $3,500,000. Inc Magazine also recognized Central Auto at #16 in the country at that time.

In 2003, Central Rigging & Transfer and Central Construction were added to the businesses. Central Rigging & Transfer services a wide variety of manufacturing plants with all types of in-plant machinery installs, plant relocation, crane service, in house nationwide trucking, life line and fall protection installation systems. Central Constructions handles all aspects of site remediation, transportation of all aggregates and specialty hauling of all off road equipment.

We are proud today of our founder, our employees experience, and our 100 years of servicing.

Check back often as we will be adding more pictures to celebrate our history.
